So the phone call that changed everything happened while Rob was out in the middle of the lake with Noah on a Kayak... during our annual family reunion.
Rob's uncle called to tell him his dad had blacked out and fallen out of the boat while fishing... he just left in an ambulance.
After leaving the reunion, dropping the kids and I off at home, Rob made his way to the hospital. He found his dad, sister & Mom there. His dad was in excruciating pain... makes sense. It turned out that he had fractured his C2... and this hospital is not equipped to take care of a patient in this condition... so off he went in a helicopter to a hospital downtown.
They arrived downtown and after days of drama, Dr's, Nurses, Specialists, moments that made us think that we may lose Rob's dad, nights of agony, days of question here we are... so VERY thankful that he has use of all his limbs, his mental state is improving daily and really seems that he is going to be okay and on the road to recovery! :)
Currently, Rob's dad, Gene now has a HALO device installed on him...he had too much damage for surgery. Crazy... this device was unknown to me until this situation. I had no idea that they (dr's) still screwed things into peoples' heads! it makes me cringe just typing it and my heart breaks listening to Rob and Kellie talk about it. It's all so surreal. Gene still has a long way to go. The cause of his black out that caused him to fall overboard is still not positive...a possible mini stroke? That's what they're thinking but that can't be figured out until he is in MUCH better condition.
I cannot imagine what it's like for my Mother In Law but I am so impressed with how Rob & Kellie have stepped up and done all that they can and are able. Everyone is pulling together to do what needs to be done to be sure that they can get the very best care and recovery for Gene. I have been in constant awe of how they've come together and humbled by their humility. You never know how a family will react in crisis mode...until it's here.
So if you pray...please keep Gene in your prayers.
On a positive note...Gene did win "Biggest Fish" in the tournament! :) Don't think the payout will cover the ambulance ride though...and that was probably the cheapest thing he did all day. :/
